Back in the 17th century, Sushi began as a method of preserving fish in Edo (Tokyo).
Today, the four basic forms are: Sashimi, Nigirizush, Maki and Chirashi.
Sashimi is cuts of raw fish served with rice on the side.
Nigiri is hand-molded rice with a piece of fish on the top, best known Sushi form, also known as “Sushi.”
Maki is a bed of rice and strips of fish wrapped and rolled up in seaweed into a log, cut and served. Also known as “Roll.”
Chirashi is made of loose pieces of fish on a bed of rice, usually comes with a special chef sauce.
